Overview:
Bleak House Centre operates as a non-profit charity organization hosting a variety of activities for adults and seniors. It is a great home away from home for old friends and new friends alike who come together in a small group setting. With the closing of the Age and Opportunity Centre (Main Street) as of June 1st 2012, over 50 members have joined to form a stronger Bleak House Centre for activities for older adults.
Their Mission Statement is “A Centre for promoting active living, education and social activities.”
Job Description:
Under the general direction of the Human Resources Committee of Bleak House, implement the New Horizon Grant which includes programming for Computer, Ceramics, Pottery and Wood Carving instruction during 2012 –2013 year.
Key Duties:
- Conduct a Needs Assessment with respect to programming by October 30th, 2012.
- Coordinate the planning implementation, evaluation and documentation of the Technology, Ceramics, Pottery and Wood Carving instruction per the New Horizon grant.
- Be responsible for hiring of instructors
- Monitor / evaluate instructor and new programs
- Facilitate the delivery of recreational programs through procurement of materials and supplies, and may perform hands–on service delivery
- Schedule facility space for programs and activities
- Produce a monthly Calendar of Events outlining Bleak House activities and ensure website calendar is updated.
- Assist with Marketing and promotional efforts
Qualifications:
Experience in the administration of recreational or leisure activities
Experience in working with Older Adults
Self Starter
Strong Organizational Skills
Knowledge of Marketing and Programming
Strong Computer Skills

Volunteer Coordinator position - Oyate Tipi Cumini Yape
This position is under the direct supervision of the Manager of Oyate Tipi. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the overall recruitment, organization and support for volunteer efforts within Oyate Tipi Cumini Yape.
Responsibilities include:

- Organizes any photographs of staff and volunteers and/or events that Oyate Tipi hots or participants in
- Maintains profiles on volunteers, including preferences, skills and hourly contributions, etc
- Coordinates schedules of volunteer efforts
- Responds to regular correspondence and inquiries from existing or potential volunteers
- Assists when possible or trains volunteers, casuals or placements in taking, recording, returning and scheduling calls that come in to the donation line
- Provides regular updates of volunteer activities to the Manager and Board of Directors
- Prepares and maintains volunteer orientation packages
- Maintains a waiting list for essential household items which are not in stock at the clients time of appointment
- Assist in program development, facilitates programs delivery, coordinates and schedules training initiatives, etc
- Assists with the planning of special events, particularly regular volunteer appreciation events
- Assists women in the selection of their furniture and/or household goods and ensures basic needs are met; Provided Oyate Tipi has all necessary essential items in stock
- Develops a core of volunteers that are willing to provide set up for the clients after appointments who agree to receiving set up assistance
- Assists donors with donation drop offs as needed, with or without the assistance of staff or volunteers
- Identifies realistic volunteer opportunities, in cooperation with other volunteers and staff
- Supports active volunteerism from the general public through:
- Recruitment of volunteers
- Providing training and orientation to volunteers as necessary
- Ensuring recognition of volunteers
- Acting as principle staff contact and resource to existing and potential volunteers
- Supports the development of capacity in Oyate Tipi's clients through volunteer opportunities, by:
- Talking with clients and informing them of volunteer opportunities
- Developing and organizing specific skill development opportunities that can be obtained through volunteering
- Providing ongoing support to generate confidence and capacity within the respective volunteer opportunity; and,
- Identifying opportunities within partner agencies and referring client volunteers accordingly
- Coordinates volunteer activities to ensure warehouse is maintained in a safe and organized manner
- Must possess diploma and/or additional post-secondary (relevant to position)
- Previous work experience in community development/education and/or youth/social work
- Experience of managing or coordinating projects and volunteers
- Experience using Microsoft office (word, excel, power point) and outlook
- Must have strong organizational skills, excellent writing skills and ability to multi-task
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to assist in developing programs
- Ability to inspire and motivate others
- Valid Drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle
