On Tuesday August 7 Picnic in the Park planning meeting is being held at 10 a.m. at St. John's Park.
A Housing Gathering is at 586 Selkirk Avenue at 5 pm on Thursday August 9. Bus tickets and a FREE dinner are provided.
The North End Community Helper's Network meeting is on Friday August 10 at Kildonan Park at Noon.
Saturday August 25 is Picnic in the Park from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at St. John's Park.
In addition to all of these awesome events, every Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. is Women's Gathering where you can share in yummy food, meet people, do fun activities and get involved!
August 1 - Lunch is Garlic Sausage and Perogies and you can make keepsake boxes
August 8 - Sandwiches and Soup are lunch and the activity is Money with Maia!
August 15 - Lunch is Burgers, Fries and Coleslaw and enjoy a visit from Pathways
August 22 - Its' Breakfast for Lunch! Make Jewelry with Jessie later on :)
August 29 - Enjoy Sandwiches, Veggies & dip and then do beading with Gladys

Bleak House Program Coordinator - Job Position

Term: Contract – September 2012 to June 2013
Contract Fee $6,000.00
Overview:
Bleak House Centre operates as a non-profit charity organization hosting a variety of activities for adults and seniors. It is a great home away from home for old friends and new friends alike who come together in a small group setting. With the closing of the Age and Opportunity Centre (Main Street) as of June 1st 2012, over 50 members have joined to form a stronger Bleak House Centre for activities for older adults.
Their Mission Statement is “A Centre for promoting active living, education and social activities.”
Job Description:
Under the general direction of the Human Resources Committee of Bleak House, implement the New Horizon Grant which includes programming for Computer, Ceramics, Pottery and Wood Carving instruction during 2012 –2013 year.
Key Duties:
- Conduct a Needs Assessment with respect to programming by October 30th, 2012.
- Coordinate the planning implementation, evaluation and documentation of the Technology, Ceramics, Pottery and Wood Carving instruction per the New Horizon grant.
- Be responsible for hiring of instructors
- Monitor / evaluate instructor and new programs
- Facilitate the delivery of recreational programs through procurement of materials and supplies, and may perform hands–on service delivery
- Schedule facility space for programs and activities
- Produce a monthly Calendar of Events outlining Bleak House activities and ensure website calendar is updated.
- Assist with Marketing and promotional efforts
Qualifications:
Experience in the administration of recreational or leisure activities
Experience in working with Older Adults
Self Starter
Strong Organizational Skills
Knowledge of Marketing and Programming
Strong Computer Skills

Main Street Farmers Market Trucking Along
Tomorrow is the Main Street Farmers Market from 2-7pm in the Neechi Commons parking lot located on Euclid and Main. There are almost 10 vendors confirmed and some music! Bring out the family for an afternoon of sun and fun!
